How to write something not already written, discussed, spoken and definitely dissected. This film by the Warshinski Brothers (now Sisters) has since the first release stimulated every aspect of inter human communication whatever medium is used to facilitate this. For this fact alone, they are to be congratulated (much like we also speak of J.K.Rowling stimulating children to read)because if you can arouse the disenfranchised mass of society (especially the 15 to 25 year olds) to take an interest in further exploration of the subjects raised and subconscious triggers fired, then you deserve respect.
This film hits the spots others allude to. In so doing it raises many of the fundamental questions that we all need answering. The problem is that it requires both determination as well as unremitting focus (OK you do take breaks. Long breaks) and also raises ones head above the parapet. In doing so the essence of vulnerability becomes apparent and most people will withdraw from any further involvement. This does assume they understood the concepts and depiction of what is inflicted upon all of us daily in the name of officialdom and always for 'the greater good'. It undoubtedly will not have pleased the masters and minions of the system and its continued maintenance so it is not brought into disrepute let alone out into the open. The' spooks' and their convoluted inter-workings will have to contain the ideas and hopefully awareness raised by these films (both cinematic and animated) in order to maintain control (remind you of anything from the series?).
Raising cognizance of the 'reality' in which we live by means of a variety of artistic representations (both currently and historically because we are extremely visually oriented) is though applaudable, too often either esoteric, discredited or discounted and though it tries hard, misses the mark in being too clever and appearing pretentious or confusingly convoluted and impenetrable. This offering does not. Somehow, the Matrix touches many of the fundamental key triggers of thought who are the gateway into awareness, perception and possibly understanding (though this is not always a given outcome). Rather than spending countless hours and producing innumerable pages of text, the Wikipedia article is a perfect place to commence with an overview as well as facts and further reference material. (The irrelevant nonsense on the net in regard to the Matrix is limitless and must be constantly monitored). There are many insightful examinations of how and why the series has so successfully created controversy and sparked a generally accepted view that it cleverly shows how little control we really have over everyday affairs as well as the 'real' issues. Basically, we identify with the story and the characters. This is in a sense, enough to know. So identify and reach your own conclusions
There is a commonality of expression when discourse on the Matrix commences which uses allegory and other idiomatic terminology to allude to the meaning of the films themselves. In all senses, the overriding image of all of us being slaves of the' machine' or system with the 'reality' that we perceive being only an illusion or projection used to mask the true inhumanity of the life we endure is what is the generally accepted message or overview idea of the Matrix. That this of course refers directly to philosophy through its depiction by current metaphors and universally understood visual artifice of Plato's famous allegorical Cave is also accepted (with the occasional dissent). There is of course copious writing on its depiction of Neo as Christ and other Biblical figures. (Is there any referencing to all the major religions?).This theme is continued but basically the occupants of the' cave ' will defend to the death their system of understanding their world even when offered the choice of seeing what really is (as opposed to what they want to see) or being induced by whatever means to inescapably 'see' reality. A useful adjunct is Huxley's 'Doors of Perception' if you need guidance on how to proceed. So watch, enjoy and further your education.
To boldly write what is never written.
